How did you come up with the idea?
I love crafting so much that I have a blog called The Bajan Texan, where I blog about DIY home decor and crafts. Crafting is my outlet. It’s the way I destress after a long day of work or with the kids. I thought all women deserved this time once a month where they can just simply do what they love, whether it be alone, with the kids, or during an epic girls night.
How do you select your products?
I draw inspiration for my home decor projects from everywhere. I may be walking through a high-end store and see a gorgeous home decor piece, look at the price tag and think, “I can create that for so much less.” This is the sort of stuff I already blog about, so it’s a natural fit for me. Once I have a project in mind, I need to make sure the materials can fit in my box, that’s the biggest struggle!
How do you find customers?
I utilize my blogger and YouTuber friends with unboxing videos and blog reviews. I also use the power of Pinterest, Instagram, and Facebook in terms of social media.
What is the most difficult part of running a subscription box business?
Finding the time. I am a pretty busy girl. I am a wife, mom of 5-year-old twins, a blogger, a YouTuber, I work full time, and now I’m an entrepreneur. Time management has been key.
What do you enjoy most about running your business?
I love that I am building something greater than myself. I love that my daughters look at me and ask if they can help pack boxes for my “projects.” I’m building a legacy for them and feeding into their entrepreneurial spirit. That gives me the most joy.
What do customers love most about your box?
That they get to create something gorgeous and then can proudly display it in their homes. It’s the gift that keeps on giving, you get to tell everyone who actually made that and you get to see it every day and dream about your next crafting session.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out in subscription commerce?
Don’t wait, do it! There will never be a perfect time. Reach out to others who have done it and form your own mastermind group where you can ask questions and get advice. It can be a lonely road, so having others around you who understand the trials and tribulations and can share in the successes makes all the difference.
