There are several platforms you could use to build a subscription box website: Cratejoy, WordPress, Shopify, Wix, and Squarespace (just to name a few popular options). It’s also possible to design your website on one platform, and handle the subscription payments and management with Cratejoy.
If you’re just starting your business, we suggest listing your subscription box on Cratejoy before actually investing a lot of time in building a website. Listing on Cratejoy is a really quick way to start getting subscription sales. It also introduces you to a large existing customer base, like Etsy (for craft products) or Amazon (for retail products).
If you decide to create a website, some items you’ll want to consider for subscription commerce are the platform’s quality of design, ease of setup, customizability, ability to accept payments, support, and tools for marketing and tracking sales.
In this article, we’ll do an overview of how to set up a subscription box website with Cratejoy.
Sign up for Cratejoy
During signup, you’ll enter all the product information (title, description, image, price) for your subscription box.
Choose a Payment Gateway
At Cratejoy, we highly recommend using Stripe as your credit card gateway. Stripe allows you to collect credit card payments and transfer the funds to your bank. This isn’t required for the trial period, but once you want to start selling you’ll need to connect a gateway.

Upgrade to the Storefront Plan
Once you’ve upgraded to the Storefront plan, you’ll have the ability to launch your own website on a custom domain.
Customize the Design
Go to the “Design” tab and click “Design Store.” To start customizing your design, click the “Designer” button next to your newly selected theme.
